Thank the Lord we can Spend, Spend, Spend

While the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is still fun, this year I find it to be a giant commercial. Perhaps it has been like that other years and I just have not been aware of it. Watch this new TV show! Go to this broadway show! Support this product! Buy our new CD!

Then any part of the day that we do not spend overstuffing ourselves we use to oggle the Black Friday ads. We watch some football games where they try to sell us more products. Then we go to bed early so we can get beat the crowds to the 4am sales.

How did we let “Thanksgiving” have so much to do with getting?

  1. Ahhhhh, rather than rebutle I get to agree with you, amen bro? I will tell you I have only listened to the first cd of David Platt’s audio book (that you so kindly lent me) which is the first three chapters. I will tell you I had a very difficult week in-terms of relation to the world around me. I have despised the prosperity message for a very long time (Listen to Jon Piper talk about the prosperity message). And this guy David Platt completely lays it out there. His bottom line is we have completely watered down or Americanized Gospel. That is we have created a Jesus that doesn’t mind materialism when infact Jesus despised it and spoke more about the evils of the quest for man than any other topic.

  2. Thanks Bill. I’ll see if I can come up with something we can fight about later this week.

Check out http://www.radicalthebook.com/ to learn about the book that Bill is talking about. Radical is a fantastic book that challenges our Americanized faith.
